Dr. Robert (Bob) W. Hasselman
June 10, 1939 – June 17, 2017
Dr. Robert (Bob) Hasselman, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at 78 years of age. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 10, 1939, to the late Dr. W.L. Hasselman and Margaret (Nell) Hasselman.
Dr. Bob attended Okmulgee High School where he met the love of his life and soul mate, Mary Lou Thornburgh. He was recognized in high school for his athletic abilities and received All-State Honors in Baseball, All- Conference Basketball and Honorable Mention All-State Football. He later attended Southern Methodist University and Oklahoma State University before obtaining his medical degree at Kansas City University of Osteopathic Medicine in 1965. He interned in Tulsa before returning to Okmulgee to join his father’s medical practice.
Dr. Bob enjoyed many years of coaching little league football and later became the team physician for Okmulgee High School. He formed deep bonds with his players, many of whom
returned to Okmulgee to visit Dr. Bob and reminisce about the memories they shared with him.
Dr. Bob’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was always so excited for his grandchildren to visit to take them on many adventures.
In his lifetime, he touched many lives and leaves behind a host of many friends and family who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. W.L. Hasselman
and Margaret (Nell) Hasselman, and his son Kyle Bert Hasselman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Hasselman of Okmulgee; his daughter Kelly Waswo and husband Jim of Edmond; his son Robert (Bobby) Hasselman and wife Debbie of Bixby; daughter-in-law Lynn Hasselman of Grove; his sister Carol Thatcher of Garland, Texas; grandchildren Brooks and Blake Hasselman of Bixby, Kacie Waswo of Edmond, and Katelyn and Allie Hasselman of Grove, as well as several other family members.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 6pm-8pm at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. There will be a funeral service honoring the life of Dr. Bob on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11am at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee, officiated by Pastor Charles Green. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
