The City of Okmulgee and a host of volunteers and sponsors will provide an even bigger and better Firework's display all set to digital choreographed patriotic music held at the Okmulgee Municiple Park next to the YMCA.

Come early, bring your lawn chairs and blanket because there will be much happening for the whole family. At 7:30 p.m. things get kicked off.  The City of Okmulgee is offering more free food this year!  Along with free hot dogs, chips and soda they will be expanding their menu to offer popcorn and ice cream. First come, first serve till it's all gone. Complimentary bug repellent wipes will also be handed out. There will be live entertainment before the show.

A free shuttle route will be provided by Muscogee Creek Nation from Wal-Mart to the Park and back. A portion of 20th street will be blocked off as a safety zone during the event said Police Chief Joe Prentice.

That evening there will be plenty for the kids to enjoy including a petting zoo, kids train, duck pond game, double water slides, face painting and more.

The city has asked that there be "no pets" please and security will be on site.

Okmulgee's  Firework's Specialist will guide the firework production that will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Free GED classes offered to the public

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Employment and Training Department is offering free GED classes for anyone in Tulsa, Okla. on June 22, June 23, June 29 and June 30. Classes will be offered in Bristow, Okla. on June 23 and June 30. Classes will be offered in Okmulgee, Okla. June 23, June 24 and June 30.

 

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council will hold a regular session Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at the Mound Building in Okmulgee, Okla.

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Tourism and Recreation Department is registering businesses, organizations and individuals to appear in the 2015 MCN Festival Parade on June 27. Everyone in the community is encouraged to create a float. Deadline to sign up in Friday, June 19 at 4 p.m.

The 2015 Muscogee (Creek) Nation Festival begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19 with the slow pitch softball tournament at the Claude Cox Omniplex in Okmulgee, Okla. The tournament will run June 19-21. The adult 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20 at the Mvskoke Dome in Okmulgee.

The Okmulgee Main Street Beautification committee will hold their 6x6x6 Canvas Art Show this evening Saturday, June 6, 2015, 6:00 p.m downtown at the Mabrey Bank meeting room.

The theme for all the artwork is “I’m so Okmulgee and there are 90 entries from ages 5 all the way up through adults working with any media of their choice and all original art.

The canvases will be on display at the Creek Council House at 6 p.m. The top three pre-judged entries will be auctioned off to the highest bidder that evening.

All remaining artwork will be sold via silent auction from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

All entries will be sold to benefit Okmulgee Main Street Storefront Restoration Grant Program.

Come join the fun and see what Okmulgee has created!

The public is invited to hear State Senator Roger Thompson at the June meeting of the Okmulgee County Republicans. Senator Thompson will share information about the budget that was recently passed and discuss some of the more controversial votes that have been mentioned in the media. A Q and A period will follow.

The speaker portion of the meeting will be Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m., in the OSU Student Union Building. OSU is located at 1801 E 4th Street in Okmulgee.

A business meeting will begin at 6:30 for all registered Republicans. Information regarding the recent Southern Republican Leadership Conference will be shared; also, the results of the Presidential Straw Poll. We encourage everyone to attend the business meeting in addition to the regular meeting.

Free workshop provides information on programs offered by 2-1-1 Helpline

(SAPULPA, OK – May 27, 2015) 2-1-1 Helpline – Get Connected. Get Answers. Want more information on the programs and services of 2-1-1 Helpline? This workshop will provide the answers you seek. From Childcare Services to Utility Assistance, 2-1-1 Helpline is available by phone 24/7 providing valuable community resources in English and Spanish. Translation services are available to serve other languages.

Join Creek County Literacy Program and 2-1-1 Helpline as we learn about the many services offered by 2-1-1 Helpline. Clarissa Dunn will share valuable information on the services offered by 2-1-1 and how they can benefit you, your family and those in need.

Dunn’s presentation will cover information including referrals, problem-solving, disaster resources during weather events, low-cost services offered by hundreds of nonprofit, faith-based and government agencies. “We are very excited to reach out to the Creek County community and teach them how to access the 20+ agencies the county has to offer and more,” shared Dunn.

The workshop will be held at the Library Annex, 15 North Poplar Street in Sapulpa on Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30pm. Light snacks and refreshments will also be available.

This free event is a health literacy outreach project of Creek County Literacy Program, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, with funding provided by the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
