Helen Marie Winn Fidler obituary

Helen Marie Winn Fidler was born Tuesday, October 6, 1925 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the late Byron and Helen (Mar) Winn. She left this earth on Monday, March 13, 2017 in Tulsa.

Helen attended Hendrix College and graduated from the University of Arkansas. She met the love of her life, Glenn Fidler, at the University of Arkansas, soon after Glenn returned from World War II. They were married March 22, 1947 and lived in Prairie Grove and Lincoln, Arkansas until they moved to Okmulgee in 1951.

They raised three children in Okmulgee. Helen was a loving wife and mother, an excellent cook, and was always kind and supportive. In addition to raising her children, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O., Bridge Club, Ladies Golf Day and the Garden Club. We will always remember her beautiful smile, which never faded, even in her last days on earth.

When Glenn retired, Helen and Glenn enjoyed traveling in their R.V. Helen especially enjoyed fishing in Estes Park and exploring in San Diego. As grandparents, Helen and Glenn gave each grandchild the gift of a week in Estes Park with Momo and Papa when they were nine years old. This was a week filled with hiking, picnicking, fishing and exploring. These trips are precious memories for each of the grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Mark.

Survivors include her daughter, Becky Murphy and son-in-law, Rick Murphy, son, John Fidler and daughter-in-law, Gwen Fidler, grandchildren, Brett Murphy, Mike Murphy, Matthew Fidler, Chris Fidler, Ashley Hebert and their spouses and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Shirley Winn, sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Cox Jones and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was a gentle, yet strong, woman, loved by all who knew her. Ephesians 3:14-19 MSG “not a brute strength, but a glorious inner strength”.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Plantation House in Okmulgee and Oklahoma Methodist Manor in Tulsa for the excellent loving care she received these last three years.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Roland Youngberg officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 302 S. Seminole, Okmulgee, Oklahoma 74447.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
